The importance of video chat apps in the current environment

Of all the interesting roles I’ve performed during my career, emergency hairdresser is perhaps the one I least expected, but during the lockdown my trusty clippers have come to the rescue on more than one occasion when me and my sons’ hair has needed a trim.

Talking about hair, it’s been fascinating watching people’s hair change over the course of the last six weeks or so during the many online video calls I’ve been involved with. Of course, this has only been made possible thanks to the wonder of modern technology and the ability it gives us to communicate face-to-face, even when we can’t meet each other in person. The huge increase in popularity of these video chat apps has been a key feature of the last few weeks, helping us to stay in touch with loved ones, work colleagues and brokers during what’s been a difficult period.

It’s why we’ve embraced them here so wholeheartedly. As we’ve not been able to get out and about to see you, they’ve enabled us to reach out and give you the same great service and support you’ve come to expect. Also, they’ve helped us to be honest and transparent with you about where things are in the pipeline so you can manage your customers’ expectations.

It’s certainly been an unusual start to my time as Group Sales Director. After four years spent developing OneSavings Bank’s (OSB) sales force into an award-winning team, I’m now responsible for the sales and telephony teams across the OSB group for Kent Reliance for Intermediaries, Precise Mortgages and InterBay Commercial.

I’ve been working closely with Jamie Pritchard, Head of Sales at Precise Mortgages, and Simon Cockerill, Head of Sales at OSB, and their teams to look at ways we can integrate video chat into our process to help us work smarter in the future and give you even more choice in the way you communicate with us, whether that’s in person, on the phone or online. We’ve also been using the time to carry out internal training to make sure everyone’s up-to-date with the latest developments in the market so we can hit the ground running once things return to some semblance of normality.
